Van Ardi Red Blend 2022
Aragatsotn, Armenia (75 cL)
Three Armenian grapes come together to transform the diversity of the vineyard into a single expression of terroir.
The Red Blend represents one of the clearest expressions of Van Ardi’s approach: bringing several Armenian varieties together so that each contributes a distinct element. The blend combines 40% Areni, 35% Haghtanak and 25% Kakhet. All three benefit from the high-altitude environment of Sasunik, where volcanic soils, dry winds and significant diurnal temperature shifts encourage concentration while preserving freshness.
The wine is generous yet balanced, with black cherry, blackcurrant and forest berries accompanied by floral and herbal nuances. The palate is juicy and pulpy, supported by integrated tannins and acidity that keeps the wine energetic. Cocoa and spice emerge gradually, adding depth to the finish. A modern, generous blend that remains firmly connected to Armenia’s distinctive grape heritage.
Founded in 2008 by Varuzhan Mouradian and his family, Van Ardi was born from a return to Armenian roots and a clear ambition: to help revive the country’s wine culture on the international stage. Based in Sasunik, in Aragatsotn, the estate’s vineyards sit at around 1,050 metres above sea level on south-southeast-facing slopes and rocky volcanic soils exceptionally rich in minerals. The dry, windy climate, with warm days and cool nights, encourages slow ripening and naturally vibrant freshness. Van Ardi follows certified-organic viticulture and a minimal-intervention approach, placing Armenia’s indigenous varieties — Areni, Haghtanak, Kakhet, Voskehat and Kangun — at the heart of its wines and allowing the character of the terroir to come through.
